In Diphoorn's ethnographic research, she focuses on policing, (private) security, violence and power. She analyses these societal issues from an anthropological lens. From 2021 onwards, she will participate in a large international research project called Algorithmic Governance and Cultures of Policing (AGOPOL). Together with an interdisciplinary team of researchers, Diphoorn will address the question how digital technologies and the growing role of private security changes the cultures of policing in different countries such as Norway, Russia and South Africa. 

After obtaining her PhD in cultural anthropology in 2013, Diphoorn continued to research private security in South-Africa, Kenya, Israel and Jamaica to gain insights into the complex dynamic between security, authority and violence. She was involved in different research projects revolving around these themes.

Next to teaching several courses in anthropology at the Utrecht University, Diphoorn is also a board member of the Utrecht Young Academy (UYA). This is a platform for the exchange of critical perspectives on academia and society in Utrecht and beyond.

Diphoorn doet etnografisch onderzoek naar politie, (private) veiligheid, geweld en macht. Ze bekijkt deze maatschappelijke kwesties via een antropologische onderzoeklens. Vanaf 2021 zal ze deelnemen aan een groot, internationaal onderzoeksproject dat ‘Algorithmic Governance and Cultures of Policing’ (AGOPOL) heet. Samen met een interdisciplinair team zal Diphoorn zich ontfermen over de vraag hoe digitale technologieën en de groeiende rol van private veiligheid de politiecultuur in verschillende landen verandert, zoals Noorwegen, Rusland en Zuid-Afrika.

Dit is een platform dat de uitwisseling van kritische perspectieven op de academische wereld en maatschappij in Utrecht en daarbuiten faciliteert.
