Zijn onderzoek richt zich voornamelijk op het tegengaan en voorkomen van obesitas bij kinderen. Als voormalig directeur van de Obesity Research Strategic Core van het Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development speelde hij een grote rol in het ontwikkelen van nieuwe nationale onderzoeksinitiatieven op het gebied van kindergezondheid.

Momenteel is hij een van de leidende figuren in het verenigen van systeemwetenschap en ziektepreventie. Vanuit interdisciplinair perspectief ontwikkelt Huang nationale en wereldwijde preventiestrategieën, waarbij hij wetenschap naar beleid vertaalt.

Terry Huang studeerde psychologie, toegepaste epidemiologie en biostatistiek, en promoveerde vervolgens aan de University of Southern California op een onderzoek naar ziektepreventie.

Dr. Terry Huang is professor of Public Health at the City University of New York as well as the University of Nebraska Medical Center (USA). He is currently one of the leading proponents on the integration of systems science and chronic disease prevention. He leads a national and global agenda on systems science education and research in public health, with a particular focus on childhood obesity, systems-oriented prevention strategies, the application of design thinking to community health, and the translation of science to policy. Huang studied psychology, applied epidemiology and biostatistics, before obtaining his PhD at the University of Southern California in preventive medicine.
