Zimmermann conducts her PhD research within the project ‘Tipping the iceberg: leveraging a food transition for indigenous communities in the Bering Sea’. They are analysing the marine-based Arctic indigenous food system on the Pribilof Islands, and involve the community to think about ways to make this food system more sustainable.

Silja Zimmermann is biogeograaf en conservatie-ecoloog. Ze is PhD-kandidaat bij het Copernicus Instituut voor Duurzame Ontwikkeling en het Centrum voor Complexe Systeem Studies binnen de Universiteit Utrecht.

Zimmermann voert haar PhD onderzoek uit binnen het project ‘Tipping the iceberg: leveraging a food transition for indigenous communities in the Bering Sea’. Dit project analyseert het inheemse Arctische voedselsysteem op de Pribilofeilanden, en betrekt de gemeenschap in het nadenken over manieren om dit voedselsysteem duurzamer te maken.
