Prof. dr. Loll werkt aan een wiskundige beschrijving van ruimte en tijd die een antwoord kan geven op vragen zoals: ‘waarom heeft ruimte drie dimensies en tijd maar één?’. Ze  hoopt ruimte en tijd terug te kunnen brengen tot één fundamentele wet. Met computersimulaties bouwt ze modelversies van het universum die ze vergelijkt met de theorieën van Einstein. Zo ontwikkelt ze nieuwe ideeën over kwantumzwaartekracht. Op het gebied van de hoge-energiefysica heeft Loll grote internationale statuur.

Daarnaast is Loll lid van de Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen (KNAW). Ze is ook fellow aan de International Society of General Relativity and Gravitation.

Loll behaalde haar PhD aan het Imperial College, Londen. Ze werkte eerder als Heisenberg Fellow bij het Max-Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics in Golm, Duitsland, en was tot 2012 hoogleraar aan de Universiteit Utrecht.

In 2004 ontving Loll een VICI-prijs van de Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (NWO). Ze is tot slot redactielid van het internationale wetenschappelijke tijdschrift Living Reviews in Relativity.

Prof. Dr. Renate Loll is Professor in Theoretical Physics at the Institute for Mathematics, Astrophysics and Particle Physics (IMAPP) of Radboud University, Nijmegen.

Loll is currently working on a mathematical description of space and time that can answer questions such as: 'why does space have three dimensions and time only one?'. She hopes to derive space and time to one fundamental law. Loll uses computer simulations to build model versions of the universe that she compares with Einstein's theories. Through this method, she hopes to develop new ideas about quantum gravity. In the field of high energy physics, Loll enjoys great international stature.

In addition, Loll is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). She also is an elected fellow of the International Society of General Relativity and Gravitation.

Loll received her Ph.D. from Imperial College, London. She previously worked as a Heisenberg Fellow at the Max-Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics in Golm, Germany, and held a professorship at Utrecht University until 2012.

In 2004, Loll became a recipient of a VICI award by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). She is also an Editorial Board member of the international journal Living Reviews in Relativity.
