Prof. Michael Kopelman is head of the section of neuropsychiatry at King’s College, London.

The main focus of the research undertaken at this section is memory disorder – ranging from amnesic syndromes as a result of head injury, stroke or brain disease, to different types of dementia, confabulation (false memories as a result of brain damage), other sorts of false memory and psychogenic amnesia. Kopelman is internationally known for work in this field. Besides his work at King's College he is a consultant neuropsychiatrist at SLaM (South London and Maudsley) and lead consultant with the Neuropsychiatry and Memory Disorders Clinic.

He is the current president of the International Neuropsychiatric Association and of the British Academy of Forensic Sciences. In the past he was president of the British Neuropsychological Society and served on the Board of the International Neuropsychological Society. Kopelman was a founder member of the Memory Disorders Research Society.

Professor Kopelman is co-editor of reference books in the field of memory disorders: The Handbook of Memory Disorders (2nd edition), and The Essential Handbook of Memory Disorders for Clinicians. He was also the co-author of 4th Edition of Lishman's Organic Psychiatry and co-editor of Forensic Neuropsychology in Practice.

Prof. Kopelman is het hoofd van de afdeling neuropsychiatrie aan King's College, Londen. De focus van het onderzoek aan deze afdeling ligt bij geheugen stoornissen - van geheugenverlies na hoofdtrauma, confabulatie (valse herinneringen na hersenletsel), andere vormen van valse herinneringen en amnesie. Kopelman is internationaal bekend door zijn werk op dit gebied. Naast zijn werk aan het King's College is hij een consulterend neuropsychiater bij SLaM (South London and Maudsley) en hoofd consultant bij de Neuropsychiatry and Memory Disorders kliniek.
