Jordi Sunyer co-directeur van het Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL) in Barcelona. Daarnaast is hij professor Preventieve medicijnen en publieke gezondheid aan de Pompeu Fabra Universiteit van Barcalona.

Hij is oprichter en voorzitter van het INMA geboortecohort in Spanje en hoofdonderzoeker van verschillende internationale studies waaronder BREATHE: BRain dEvelopment and Air polluTion ultrafine particles in scHool children. Sunyer doet voornamelijk onderzoek naar de frequentie en oorzaak van astma en COPD, de invloed van luchtverontreiniging op hartproblemen en de effecten van verontreiniging op gedragsneurologie. In 2014 won hij de meest prestigieuze prijs van de milieu- en gezondheidsonderzoek, de John Goldsmith Award. Hij kreeg deze award voor zijn voortreffelijke bijdrage aan de kennis en onderzoek van de milieuepidemiologie.

Prof. Jordi Sunyer

Jordi Sunyer is Co-director of the Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL) in Barcelona. Next to it he is a professor in Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. He is the founder and chair of the INMA birth cohort in Spain and principal investigator of several international studies including the ERC Advanced Grant BREATHE: BRain dEvelopment and Air polluTion ultrafine particles in scHool children. His main research is about the frequency and aetiology of the asthma and the COPD, air pollution and the cardio respiratory diseases and the early life origins of the neurobehavioral development. In 2014 he won the most prestigious global prize of environment and health research, the John Goldsmith Award. He received this award for his outstanding contributions to the knowledge and practice of environmental epidemiology.
