Hij doet onder meer onderzoek naar de neerslag van zwarte modder in de aardbodem. Door steeds dieper naar verschillende aardlagen te kijken kun je leren begrijpen hoe de aarde eruitzag in een ver verleden.

Sinds 2017 is Trabucho Alexandre lid van de Utrecht Young Academy, een ontmoetingsplek voor jonge talentvolle wetenschappers. Daarnaast werkt hij bij de opleiding Aardwetenschappen en begeleidt hij studenten tijdens geologisch veldwerk.

Voor zijn aanstelling in Utrecht werkte Trabucho Alexandre als onderzoeker en docent aan Durham University, Verenigd Koninkrijk, waar hij in 2013 de Durham University Learning and Teaching Award ontving.

Dr João Trabucho Alexandre is a sedimentary geologist at Utrecht University.

He studies sedimentation of black shale in the earth's soil. By looking deeper at the different layers of the Earth one can learn what the Earth looked like in the distant past.

Trabucho Alexandre has been a member of the Utrecht Young Academy, a meeting place for young talented scientists, since 2017. In addition, he teaches at the Earth Sciences programme and supervises students during geological fieldwork.

Before his job in Utrecht Trabucho Alexandre worked as a scientist and teacher at Durham University, United Kingdom, where he received the Durham University Learning and Teaching Award in 2013.
