Van Furth is medeoprichter van Proud2Bme.nl, een online community voor jongeren, en personen in hun directe omgeving, met eetproblemen of eetstoornissen. Hij is tevens voorzitter van de Nederlandse Academie voor Eetstoornissen.

Van Furth studeerde klinische psychologie en ontwikkelingspsychologie aan de Universiteit Utrecht. In 1991 promoveerde hij met zijn onderzoek bij de afdeling Kinder- en Jeugdpsychiatrie van het Academisch Ziekenhuis Utrecht.

Van Furth is a professor eating disorders at Leiden University Medical Centre and director at GGZ Rivierduinen Eating disorders Ursula.

Also, he is chair of the Dutch Academy for Eating Disorders and co-founder of Proud2Bme.nl, an online community for individuals with eating problems or an eating disorder, and their loved ones. He studied clinical psychology and developmental psychology at Utrecht University before getting his PhD at the departement Children- and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University Hospital Utrecht (AZU).
