Christiane Spiel is hoogleraar Educatiepsychologie en Evaluatie en departementshoofd van de faculteit Psychologie aan de Universiteit van Wenen.

Spiel is hoofd en lid van verschillende internationale adviesorganen en redacties in haar vakgebied, waaronder het ERIH-expertpanel van de European Science Foundation voor psychologie, president van de European Society for Developmental Psychology en oprichtingsdecaan van de faculteit Psychologie van de Universiteit van Wenen. Ze werkt in verschillende projecten samen met het Oostenrijkse ministerie van Onderwijs en het ministerie van Wetenschap en Onderzoek.

Spiel heeft verschillende prijzen gekregen voor haar onderzoek, onderwijs en haar bestuurlijke taken. Ze publiceerde meer dan tweehonderd wetenschappelijke artikelen in haar vakgebied. Ze richt zich in haar onderzoek met name op het grensgebied tussen ontwikkelingspsychologie, educatiepsychologie en evaluatie. Specifiek houdt zij zich bezig met pestgedrag, integratie in multiculturele schoolklassen, lifelong learning en evalutatieonderzoek en kwaliteitsmetingen in het onderwijs.

Christiane Spiel is professor of Educational Psychology and Evaluation and department head at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Vienna. She is and has been chair and member of various international advisory and editorial boards as e.g., chair of the ERIH expert panel of the European Science Foundation for psychology, president of the European Society for Developmental Psychology, and founding dean of the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Vienna. In several projects she is working together with the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education and the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science and Research.

She has got several awards for research, university teaching, and university management and has published more than 200 original papers. Her research topics are on the border between developmental psychology, educational psychology and evaluation. Specific research topics are: Bullying und victimization, integration in multicultural school classes, lifelong learning, change measurement, evaluation research and quality management in the educational system.
