Fabian is an assistant professor, specialized in cultural artificial intelligence, at Utrecht University. There he is a member of the focus area "Governing the Digital Society", which promotes research on the social process of datafication, algorithmisation and platformisation. 

His doctoral thesis investigated the infrastructural geography of artificial intelligence. He examined how big tech companies like Amazon, Google and Microsoft have their part in the AI-industry and what this means for social structures and cultural life.
