Dr. Wilfried van Sark

Natuurkundige
1 opname

Wilfried van Sark is assistant professor at the Energy & Resources department at the Geoscience faculty. He performs and coordinates research on next generation solar energy devices incorporating technical innovation as well as life cycle analysis, socioeconomics and policy development as well as research on the implementation of smart grids. A smart grid is an electrical grid that uses information and communications technology to gather and act on information, such as information about the behaviors of suppliers and consumers, in an automated fashion to improve the efficiency, reliability, economics, and sustainability of the production and distribution of electricity

Van Sark graduated in experimental physics from Utrecht University in 1985. During his PhD at Catholic University Nijmegen and as post-doc/senior researcher at Utrecht University he specialised in various types of solar cells. He was assistant professor at Catholic University Nijmegen before returning to Utrecht, focusing on microscopy on nanocrystals.

Van Sark is member of the Editorial Board of Elsevier's scientific journal Renewable Energy, and member of various organizing committees of different conferences. He is author or co-author of over 200 peer-reviewed paper publications and book chapters. He has (co-)edited three books including Physics And Technology Of Amorphous-Crystalline Heterostructure Silicon Solar Cells(2011) and was editor of Photovoltaic Technology as part of the reference book Comprehensive Renewable Technology (2012).
