Dr Jue Wang is an assistant professor and lecturer at the Leiden University Institute for Area Studies.

Wang is a scholar of international political economy, with a focus on China’s political economy , its external economic relationship and the country’s role in regional and global economic governance. She also has a wide range of research interests in international economic organizations such as the IMF, World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. Other research interests of Wang involve China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the investment cooperation between Asia and the Arab Gulf states in Africa.

Since 2017 Wang has been an associate fellow in the Asia-Pacific Programme at Chatham House. She regularly comments on Chinese and international affairs for media outlets including the BBC, Al Jazeera, the New York Times, The Times and de Volkskrant. Wang specialized in International Relations and earned a PhD in Politics and International Studies in 2014 at the University of Warwick.
