De Kloet is geïnteresseerd is de culturele implicaties van globalisatie, met een specifieke focus op het hedendaagse China. Hij houdt zich onder meer bezig met onderzoek naar hedendaagse kunst, nieuwe media en film, stedelijke verandering, en de mogelijkheid om je als Chinese burger kritisch uit te laten.

Ook is hij oprichter en coördinator van de ASCA Transasia Cultural Studies Group.

De Kloet behaalde de Masters Tropische Bosbouw (WU) en communicatiewetenschap (UvA) en promoveerde in Sociologie/ Antropologie (UvA).

De Kloet is interested in the cultural implications of globalisation, with a specific focus on contemporary China. Among his research topics belong contemporary art, new media and cinema, as well as urban change and the possibilities to be critical in China.

He is also founder and coordinator of the ASCA Transasia Cultural Studies Group.

De Kloet has an MSc in Tropical Forestry (WU), an MA in Communication Studies (UvA) and a PhD in Sociology/ Anthropology (UvA).
