The primary focus of Denton's research is to understand disparities in power dynamics within the context of climate change and sustainable development, with the primary objective of establishing forums that facilitate discourse on the concept of justice. Her objective is to democratize the dialogue and amplify the voices of those on the frontlines of climate-related consequences – those who are frequently marginalized and ignored without agency or representation. She intends to examine the relationship between their transitional experiences and the larger societal and economic transition. In addition, Denton strives to foster dialogues that transcend boundaries, with a focus on our collective humanity and the common evolution we must pursue towards a post-carbon economy.

Denton is director of the United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources in Africa (UNU-INRA) based in Accra, Ghana.

De primaire focus van het onderzoek van Denton is het begrijpen van verschillen in machtsdynamiek binnen de context van klimaatverandering en duurzame ontwikkeling, met als voornaamste doel het opzetten van forums die het discours over het concept van rechtvaardigheid faciliteren.
