He investigates computational models of language acquisition, language processing and language change. His research focusses on how to model complex systems in the physical and biological world using tools of mathematics, computation and control.

He studied applied mathematics at Harvard University and computer science at MIT, and holds a PhD degree in Computing Science from the same university.
