The main character in the movie Memento is a man with short-term memory loss who tries to put the pieces of his past back together. His neurological deficit points us to one of the most extraordinary qualities of the healthy brain: its ability to store experience after experience. Dr. Corette Wierenga (Cell Biology, UU) explains how the brain manages to do this without causing us to lose our minds.
